What can I say. iTunes 7.0.2 came out, and a crapload more stuff got added. I also finished getting all the lyrics to the songs I have. My iTunes XML parser just wasn't cutting the mustard anymore. So I decided to write a real application that would create a Mysql UTF8 formatted dump of all the information on files contained within iTunes. Maybe 15 hours development time later, SqlTunes was born. I later modified sqltunes to do direct querying to a mysql db - vastly improving pretty much everything. I even fleshed out my itunes interface for applications... maybe I'll take that and release it seperately, but who knows. Usage is easy: launch the application; punch in your mysql server credentials and db to enter information in, and wait! The power of this application is not in what is does, but what it enables you TO do. Think of this: once you get your db created, you can serve this information on your webserver - all your songs, information, lyrics, etc. Combine this with applescripts for programs like adium, and you have hot linking of any song you are playing, with all the information that iTunes can provide. Hate the way iTunes doesn't display values? Write your own interface on the web. Hell, write your own interface, and link the song to the iTunes store... the possibilities are endless! Please donate!
